Star Wars Rumors

???????Final Release – It is said that this edition will be released in a “Grand Saga” box set. Lucasfilm Vice President of Marketing Jim Ward confirmed that in this final release, Lucasfilm is likely to return to John Lowry to do even more work on the films (possibly digital contemporization of the original trilogy).

  • High Def – “As the technology evolves and we get into a high-definition platform that is easily consumable by our customers, the situation is much better, but there will always be work to be done.”

  • Bonus Material – Producer Rick McCallum has also explained that Lucasfilm has been holding back a large amount of bonus material for this release, including deleted scenes, as well as numerous previous Star Wars “making-ofs,” spin-offs, television specials, documentaries, and other special material.

  • The TV Show – The Star Wars live-action TV series is a science fiction television series currently set to debut in 2009. It will be an Expanded Universe production set in the fictional Star Wars galaxy. The project, which has yet to be given an official title, was first announced in April 2005 by Star Wars creator George Lucas at the “Celebration III” fan convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In 10 to 12 years from now Lucas and McCallum have said they want around 400 hours of TV time stories. (Can give you link to back that up) Now that’s 100 from the Clone Wars, 100 hours from the Live Action (LA) and if the LA works out 100 hours for a KotOR and 100 hours for a post OT story. That will mean in 12 year we will not be talking about the movies as a reference but the TV shows, like StarGate fans now do. There very well could be 420 or more hours of stories and only 16 of them from the movie. Fan will say because I complained about this or I always said that and the fans would take the credit from there being stories the way they wanted. But I now think this has been Lucas’s plan from some time and had to make the movies first and out of the way to make the TV shows.

In an interview with SFGateStar Wars creator George Lucas said his live-action Star Wars TV series planned for 2009 will be different than the updatedBattlestar Galactica or Joss Whedon’s Firefly. I mean, of course it will be different, those are all three different series, but it sounds like Lucas has something big in mind. He also said the new series would be more “adult” and would not focus on the Skywalkers. I’m not sure what he meant by the “adult” remark, but I imagine he plans to make softcore Star Wars porn. Trust me, they didn’t even come close to exposing all the gadgets hidden inside R2-D2. TheStar Wars saga is about to get hella steamy. Hells yeah. Or perhaps not, either way it is my duty as a Star Wars geek to be excited about it.

I was able to attend the “Future of Star Wars” panel at Dragon*Con presented by Steve Sansweet.  Although it was largely a rehash of things I’ve reported on in San Diego (and a large chunk of the presentation was a filmed segment of the Clone Wars table read from San Diego), there were a couple of interesting tidbits.

Steve Sansweet officially acknowledged the Live Action TV series and gave a rough timetable and hinted strongly at a bit of casting news (though the hint will make it constitute as rumour at best).

First: Pre-production on the show will be starting soon and go through until the new year.  The writers have been working for a while and, according to Sansweet, no one knows anything about the story for sure except George Lucas, Rick McCallum and the writers.

He also gave 2012 as a reasonably firm date for seeing the project on the air.  It is a one hour format drama show and will air weekly.

As far as the casting news.  An audience member asked about Daniel Logan (who portrayed Boba Fett in Attack of the Clones) and his possible participation in the show reprising his role.  Sansweet remained cryptic, reminded everyone that no major casting deals have been made with anyone but said (and I quote), “A couple of years ago Rick McCallum said that he would consider it, and I would expect news from Daniel’s camp in the not-too-distant future.”  He didn’t say what that news would be, but it seemed to me to insinuate that he was the front runner for the part.  Which would please me.

He also reminded the audience that anything other than what he told us today that anyone read on the Internet was probably not true.

So, here we are with the straight dope, right from the horses mouth.
